Gone With the Wind

Originally written by Margaret Mitchell, Gone With the Wind tells the story of a Civil War era Southern belle named Scarlett O’Hara. Her life is centered around her love for Ashley Wilkes.

The film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. It is still the highest-grossing film of all time. The movie has been re-released by New Line Cinema for its 59th anniversary. It was also featured prominently on the launch of HBO Max.

The story of “Gone with the Wind” begins with the start of the Civil War at Gettysburg. Sherman’s march through Georgia provides the historical background. The story then continues through Scarlett’s life and the years immediately following the war.

The Artist

Despite the slowdown and closures of the art world, a good number of high quality art films have emerged over the past few years. A good example is the Netflix documentary about Carlos Almaraz. He was a Los Angeles artist and activist who died of AIDS in 1989.

Likewise, the movie Seraphine is a biopic about French painter Seraphine de Senlis. The film starts in the year 1914. It follows her from her early days as an art student to her heartbreaking demise. The movie also won seven Cesar Awards, including best actress for Yolande Moreau.

Shawshank Redemption

Originally written as a short story, The Shawshank Redemption was adapted into a film in 1994. The story focuses on an undeserved wronged man who is sent to prison. As he tries to survive in the midst of a corrupt prison, he develops friendships with other inmates and finds a way to live a life outside the cell.

The Shawshank Redemption was directed by Frank Darabont and starred Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards. It was also listed in the 100 Years…100 Movies list by the American Film Institute. It was also named one of the top films of the 1990s by Empire magazine.

Get Shorty

GET SHORTY is a crime comedy directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. It’s based on the best-selling novel by Elmore Leonard. It features action, violence, pathos, and crude references.

The plot revolves around a mob debt collector named Chili Palmer who works in Hollywood. He meets Ray Bones, a gangster. He is sent to Los Angeles to collect a debt. But Ray Bones tries to kill Chili Palmer. Then Chili is lured by the excitement of filmmaking. He ends up with a drug smuggler named Bear.

Ray Bones is played by Dennis Farina. The Chicago energy of Farina’s performance is a highlight.

Spree

Presented as a series of live streams and live video, “Spree” is a satirical horror-comedy thriller about a ride-share driver who goes on a killing spree. The movie is directed by Eugene Kotlyarenko and co-written by Gene McHugh.

The story follows Kurt Kunkle (Joe Keery), a wannabe YouTube influencer who goes on a killing spree. In order to gain more attention, he decides to live stream himself murdering people.

The movie uses split screen techniques to show multiple social media streams. It also features GoPros and dash cams to illustrate the various points of view.

South Park

Almost two decades after the release of its first animated movie, South Park has become a staple of pop culture. It is now a popular TV show and has been adapted into two feature films, including its most recent film, South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

The show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, are set to release six more seasons of the flagship animated property. They have also been contracted to make two movies a year for six years, until 2027. These films will follow the format of the pandemic specials. They will also be distributed through the US streaming service Paramount+.
